9

I had another play with an Asus Eee PC in an airport over the weekend. At £215 it took all my will power to stop me reaching for the plastic, but I'm so glad I did as it seems the 9" model is finally here!

The 901 will be infinitely more usable with its half-decent 1024 x 600 display.  Ppre-order prices seem to be around £330 but will hopefully fall when the unit starts to ship later this month. Although the new ultra mobile machine uses the same Celeron M processor, we hear it will run at 900MHz, compared to the 630MHz of of the old 701 model...

The MarkII machine has other improvements including a choice of storage sizes (12 or 20GB). Strangely it seems the Linux version will ship with the 20GB while the 12GB version will have Windows XP Home Edition. It maybe that the extra cost of the Windows license means you lose out on the extra storage space.

Other specs are pretty much the same with regard to the built in 802.11b/g Wi-Fi, 1.3MP webcam and USB/VGA/Ethernet ports.
